Capped price moving in Tauranga
One number, agreed before we start. Finish early, pay less. Run late, pay the cap. Never more.
Capped price, explained in 30 seconds
The quote said one thing. The invoice said another.
It's the most common story we hear about people's last move. The truck ran late, the stairs took longer than anyone expected, and the number on the invoice wasn't the number on the quote.
That happens because most movers make you choose between two ways of paying, and each one leaves someone carrying the risk.
HourlyCheap if the move is quick, expensive if it isn't. The risk of a long day sits with you.
Fixed priceProtects you from a long day, but you pay the same even if the crew is done by lunch. And because the mover is now taking the risk, a fixed price usually has a safety margin built into it.
We offer both. And we offer a third option that takes the risk off you without the padding.
Same crew, same truck. Only the bill behaves differently.
Hourly
Pay for the time it takes.
Best for: Small, predictable moves
Fixed price
One price, whatever happens.
Best for: People who just want one number
Capped price
The best of both.
Best for: Most house moves
Pick whichever suits you. Most of our Tauranga customers choose capped.
Four steps. No fine print.
We quote your move
You tell us what's moving, where from and where to. We agree one capped price before the day.
We track the hours anyway
On the day the crew logs time at our normal hourly rate, exactly as they would on an hourly job.
You pay the lower of the two
Hourly total under the cap? You pay the hourly total. Over it? You pay the cap.
That's the invoice
No hidden fees. No surprises. You are never charged more than the number we agreed.
The most you'd pay for a three-bedroom move in Papamoa, agreed before the day.
The quick day
The long day
Either way, you knew the most you could pay before anyone lifted a box.
The more we know, the sharper the number.
- How much is movinghouse size, and any large or awkward items
- Access at both endsstairs, lifts, long carries, parking
- Distancelocal across Tauranga, Papamoa and Mount Maunganui, or further afield
- Extraspacking or storage, if you add them
If something changes before the day, tell us and we'll re-quote. If it changes on the day, we'll talk to you before we start, not after.
We come to you. You get a capped price. No obligation.
A capped price is only as good as the quote behind it, so for most house moves we'd rather see the job than guess at it from a form.
One of the crew comes to your place, walks through with you, checks access at both ends and gives you a capped price on the spot or the same day.
The things people ask before they book.
Is the capped price a fixed price?
It's a fixed ceiling. A fixed price is what you pay no matter what. A capped price is the most you'll pay; if the move takes less time than quoted, you pay less.
What if the move takes longer than you expected?
You pay the cap. The extra time is on us.
What if I have more to move than I told you?
Be as accurate as you can when you get the quote, because the cap is based on it. If the job on the day is clearly different from what was quoted, we'll talk to you before we start, not after.
Can I switch from hourly to capped, or the other way?
Yes, up until the day of the move. Just ask when you get your quote.
Where do you offer capped price moves?
Local moves across Tauranga, Papamoa, Mount Maunganui and the wider Bay of Plenty. Moving further? Ask us when you get your quote.
Do I need a home visit to get a capped price?
Not always, but we recommend it for house moves. The visit is free, takes around 20 minutes and there's no obligation to book. Seeing the job means the cap is based on what's actually there, not a guess.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The cap is the most you will pay for the move as quoted. No fuel surcharge on top, no surprise line items on the invoice.

Imagine moving and storing the contents of NINE HOUSES in 12 hours! That’s what Prince and his amazing team did for our kāinga. We are beyond grateful for his professionalism and the stamina and strength of his staff. Prime Movers have to be SIMPLY THE BEST MOVERS in Tauranga-Moana.

The experienced team from Prime Movers did a perfect job of locally moving our quite large house full of stuff. The high quality of their packing was evident when we unpacked - nothing damaged or missing. They worked hard and gave very good value for money. I have no hesitation in recommending Prince's services.
