Moving day checklist: how to prepare for your house move
What to do before the day, what to do on the day, and what we take care of when we arrive. A bit of prep saves you time and money; we do the heavy lifting.
A bit of prep saves you time and money on the day.
Everything on this list is something you can do the week before. Tick them off as you go.
A clear run makes everything faster.
On the day, the job is mostly about access.
Here's what we do, so you don't have to.
- Your TV, photo frames and paintings wrapped in blankets.
- Your mattresses in protective bags.
- Light-coloured couches and sofas wrapped if needed, to keep them clean.
- Kitchen boxes straight into the kitchen, so you can sort out your next meal easily.
One tip for the rest of the boxes
Keep them in one secure, easy-to-reach spot rather than spread through the house. Your bedrooms stay clear, you can unpack one box at a time, and you've got space to actually rest.
We can take care of the old place too.
Once you've moved out, there's usually a clean and a clear-out left to do. If you'd like us to coordinate with your cleaners, or arrange the move-out cleaning for you, we can do that. And if you've got rubbish to clear out, we can handle the dumping as well. So you can focus on settling into your new home.

The things people ask before moving day.
How heavy should a moving box be?
Keep fragile boxes to 5 to 7 kg at most, so nothing gets crushed under its own weight. For everything else, if you can lift it comfortably, so can we.
Do I need to empty my drawers before the movers arrive?
Yes. Empty all your drawers. Full drawers make furniture heavy and awkward to carry, and things slide around inside.
When should I empty and unplug the fridge?
Empty it 4 hours before we arrive and unplug it, so it has time to drain and dry.
What should go in my priority bag?
Your important clothes, jewellery, electronics, medicine and toiletries: the things you'll want on hand straight away at the new place.
Can you do the packing for me?
Yes. If you'd like a hand with any of the packing, that's what we're here for. Ask when you get your quote.
Do you protect furniture and mattresses?
We wrap your TV, photo frames and paintings in blankets, put protective bags on your mattresses, and wrap light-coloured couches and sofas if needed to keep them clean.
Can you help with cleaning or rubbish after I've moved out?
We can coordinate with your cleaners or arrange the move-out cleaning for you, and we can handle rubbish dumping as well.
